No Sympathy
May 18, 2012
I have plenty of compassion and sympathy for those forced to deal with adversity that they didn’t cause. But I find it hard to find any for:
THE MIAMI HEAT
If you don’t want the pressure, don’t have a party for free agent signings that suggest you’ve already won. And the national media can try its best to turn LeBron James into a likeable figure. Still not buying it here.
LAKERS FANS
Death threats to Steve Blake and his family because he missed an open shot. Really? You’ve won 16 titles as franchise, 11 if you count only the ones in Los Angeles. Be quiet and take your medicine. You’ve had more than your share. It’s not a birthright.
ALBERT PUJOLS
He took the money the Angels offered rather than stay in a cocoon and be a hero in St. Louis. It’s not like the Cardinals didn’t make him an offer. But he felt insulted. By a $200 million offer? Then you’ve lost touch with reality. As Mariano Rivera told the Red Sox when he turned down their offer: “Never do the wrong thing for money.” News flash—if you cash the checks, you have the take the expectations that also come along.
