Starting Fiers

Posted on by JP Cadorin

Why does nobody give Michael Fiers any credit?

Throughout his entire career, Fiers has been doubted by seemingly everyone in the baseball world.  He was barely recruited out of high school, had to go to three different colleges just to get noticed, and even then, was a 22nd round draft pick.  All this after LEADING THE NATION IN STRIKEOUTS his senior year!!!

Since he wasn’t a “top prospect” you probably haven’t had his stats shoved down your throat like some other Brewers minor leaguers.  Well, feast your eyes on these babies!

2009 – Helena (Rookie Ball) – 13 games, 1.29 ERA, 35 K’s, 1 BB

2009 – Brevard (High A) – 6 games, 1.98 ERA, 16 K’s, 2 BB

2010 – Brevard (High A) – 17 games, 3.47 ERA, 94 K’s, 23 BB

2010 – Huntsville (AA) – 10 games, 3.69 ERA, 36 K’s, 9 BB

2011 – Huntsville (AA) – 22 games, 2.64 ERA, 63 K’s, 14 BB

2011 – Nashville (AAA) – 12 games, 1.11 ERA, 69 K’s, 22 BB

Pretty outstanding stuff for a guy that’s never gotten much credit.  So far with the Brewers, he’s had 3 great starts and 2 average ones.  Keep in mind, the average ones aren’t any worse than ones thrown out by Yovani Gallardo, Randy Wolf or Marco Estrada this year.

Fiers is a great interview and says some pretty interesting stuff (as opposed to the cliches spouted out by 90% of MLB players), so I’d love it if you watched this week’s Sports32 Weekly, airing Tuesdays at 6&10 and then throughout the week.  Plus, it’s episode 200, so maybe something cool will happen :)
